Squash & Co!

Man has an Adam’s apple. In the giraffe, it is an Adam’s gourd – Pierre Légaré

October is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate the month of ghosts and witches than with a good big squash and pumpkin. That’s why during the month of colors, we offer the picking of your squash and other cucurbits. We present this little blog to introduce you to the many varieties of squash that we offer.

Varieties of squash

1) Pumpkin:

First of all, the good old pumpkin is a distant cousin of the pumpkin. However, despite their resemblance, our first one is of a flatter shape and its color goes from orange, to reddish dark green. The pumpkin is a very light food in calorie. Moreover, it is a fruit very concentrated in micro nutrients, therefore very good for health.

2) Spaghetti Squash:

Spaghetti squash lives up to its name as it is often used to replace pasta in many recipes. Indeed, its spindly constitution when heated is an ideal substitute to cut some carbohydrates. In addition to its culinary qualities, spaghetti squash is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, D, E, K and B vitamins.

3) Butternut Squash :

Did you know that the name comes from the tenderness of the butter and the sweetness of the nuts? Moreover, it is a fruit that can be kept for a very long time (from 6 to 10 months), so it is picked in September/October and enjoyed until June.

4) Heart of gold

Heart of gold squash is a hybrid of the sweet and nutty acorn squash. It can be eaten raw with an appetizer, baked, in salads, fried or with sweet dishes. Strangely enough we find all this in our store.
