The summer apples have arrived!

Summer apple season is just around the corner. During the first three weeks of August, it should be possible to come and pick summer apples at the Verger Champêtre.

For those who don’t know, the summer apple is a thin-skinned apple. It is also very crisp with a mild, slightly sweet flavor, although more tart than the apple you pick in the fall. At Verger Champêtre, we have two varieties of summer apples to offer you, the Melba and the Vista Bella. If you are not familiar with them, here is a short description of these two apple varieties!

The Melba apple

The Melba is a juicy, crisp, medium sweet apple. Its unique texture and very aromatic flavor are a caress to the palate and make it a favorite of many. Good for chewing, it is also an excellent cooking apple. It is particularly appreciated for compote because it melts when cooked.

The Vista Bella apple

The Vista Bella is one of the earliest apples since it can be found in supermarkets during the months of August and September. However, a supermarket apple and a freshly picked apple are not the same thing! We guarantee it! Like the Melba, the Vista Bella is a crisp and juicy apple, moderately sweet, with a very aromatic and slightly acidic taste. However, the shelf life of the Vista Bella differs somewhat from that of the Melba since it lasts about a week.

So now that you are more familiar with our summer apples, mark your calendars and note that the Melba and Vista Bella are available for pick-your-own for the first three weeks of August. We look forward to seeing you at the beginning of the apple season at Verger Champêtre!
